Set in the former Grade II listed Grammar School of Strawberry How , Caretakers Cottage is perfectly located on the southern edge of the town towards the national park, with only a 10 min walk into the town centre. It is a delightful and spacious 2 bedroom apartment accessed via its own private entrance, with high ceilings and retaining many original features the property has a lovely warm and welcoming feel. With its light and airy double aspect lounge with far reaching views towards the local fells, large kitchen/diner, 2 double bedrooms, allocated parking for 2 cars, lockable secure storage for bikes and private EV charging point it is a perfect bolthole for a relaxing time while exploring  the Lake District.

Our location allows for easy reach of Keswick, Buttermere, Bassenthwaite lake, Whinlatter Forest visitors Centre and Honister Pass slate mine as well as the Northern and North Western Lakes and Fells.

Cockermouth has a wonderful mix of cafes, pubs, restaurants, independent shops, river walks and children's play parks, as well as being a working market town. A great place for lunch, dine out on an evening or exploring beyond.

Price includes for gas, electric, bedding and towels. Strictly No Smoking/Vaping or Pets allowed.

Please note that due to on-site regulations no campervans/motorhomes or commercial vehicles are permitted to park in the grounds overnight.

Not suitable for children under the age of 3.

Minimum 4 night stay. Friday changeover day.   



Private Entrance

The property is accessed via our private entrance which leads to the downstairs hallway with quarry tiled flooring, useful storage area for coats and shoes and original staircase dating back to 1891 which takes you up the light and airy staircase to the first floor main living area.

With twin sash windows, high ceilings and one of only two remaining original fireplaces in the building the kitchen is a delightful room to enjoy breakfast in the morning with the sun streaming in or a leisurely evening meal with a glass of wine. It is fully fitted with integrated gas hob, separate electric double oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine  and microwave along with breakfast bar seating for 4 guests.

Light and airy dual aspect lounge with large bay window to the front giving far reaching views towards the local fells. There is a log effect electric fire, smart TV with Netflix and comfortable seating for 4 guests to relax on while planning the next days adventures.

A bright spacious reading area with a selection of books and board games.



Master Bedroom

Situated at the front of the property with a large bay window and high ceilings the master bedroom has a King size bed and fitted mirrored sliding wardrobes. The bed will be made up for your arrival.

Twin Bedroom

A peaceful cosy bedroom with twin single beds, fully fitted wardrobes and desk space and chair. The beds will be made up for your arrival.

Bathroom

A modern well fitted bathroom with vanity units, corner shower cubicle, bath, wash basin, toilet and chrome towel warmer.
